The survey was a part of the World’s Best Awards of the magazine where travelers were asked about their experiences and evaluate everything about the places they visited, including cruise lines, airports, hotels, resorts, and cities, among others. The scores for the best islands were based on certain characteristics like the friendliness of the locals and romantic charm of the place.
Many of the travelers appreciated the fact that English is among the official languages of the island. They also commended the welcoming attitude of the residents of the island. McHugh also wrote that the people remained friendly to visitors who want to explore their home despite the unpredictable politics of the archipelago. Cebu and the other islands in the Philippines went up against world-class destinations like Bora-Bora, Santorini and other favorite tourist spots in the world.
Cebu was described as a former Spanish colony visited by travelers who want to see the remaining architecture in the island. It added that the helpfulness of the locals is one of the best qualities of the island. This is not surprising since Cebuanos have long been known for their warmth, intelligence and good tastes. These characteristics are also a part of the traditions held dear by Lola Pureza, who set high standards of quality for the Lady Fingers of Cebu, the Peanut Browas.
