Unplug Yourself From The World At The Bacalla Woods Campsite

4/23/2017

These days, life in the city can be somewhat maddening as the developments have changed much of the overall landscape of the Queen City of the South. While there are some places where you can spend a relaxing weekend within the city, it might be a good idea to go to a place where you can unplug yourself from the world and be one with nature. One of these places can be found in the southern town of San Fernando, the Bacalla Woods Campsite.

Bacalla Woods Campsite

The Bacalla Woods Campsite is located at Brgy. Ylaya, San Fernando, Cebu. It is around four kilometers from the main road and readily accessible since the road to the place is well paved. It is also around one kilometer away from the Hidden Paradise Mountain Resort. The place touts itself as “the home of the artists, environmentalists, explorers, extreme sports athletes, campers, and all nature enthusiasts.”

Activities

Visitors have a number of options for the things they can do at the campsite. One can go river trekking and pass by seven waterfalls or trek to the cliffs of Kantopas, which was named after an engkanto or nature spirit who supposedly lives in the area. Another option is to go mountain biking or long boarding. The nearby waters of San Fernando can also be a venue for snorkeling or stand-up paddling. The highest point of the campsite gives visitors a glimpse of the town of Pinamungahan and the islands of Negros and Bohol. The rates for the activities range from PHP50 for trekking up to PHP500 for mountain biking.

Accommodations

Since it is a campsite, the place only features basic accommodations. While the Bacalla Woods Campsite does have a room for two people, visitors normally stay in tents to become one with nature. You have the option of bringing your own tent or you can rent one at the campsite.  You can also rent hammocks, which is a part of the culture of Filipinos especially for those living in the rural areas. The hammocks at the campsite are made from surplus materials from the Mactan Economic Processing Zone (MEPZ). Tent rental is at PHP300 while renting a hammock is priced at PHP100. The place also charges PHP150 for an overnight stay with free breakfast. The rental for the room for two is at PHP750.

One thing that you should know about the Bacalla Woods Campsite is that there is no cellular signal at the place. Due to this, you will essentially unplug yourself from the world making it the ideal place for you to recharge you energies after a stressful week in the office.
