San Fernando is one of the towns in the southern part of Cebu. It was once a part of Naga before the heads of several barangays came together to form a different municipality. While there were some objections at the start, the Spanish government relented and a new parish was formed. It was initially called San Isidro Labrador before the name was changed to San Fernando in honor of a well-loved priest in the town, Father Fernando Sanchez, and the saint from whom he got his name.
