As part of the move of the United Nations in reducing these figures, the #SaveKidsLives campaign was launched during the Third UN Global Road Safety Week in May 2015. The campaign focuses on children and safety on the road with the overall objective of saving the lives and improving safe mobility for children.
The #SaveKidsLives campaign recently drew support from renowned film director Luc Besson, who directed an advocacy film emphasizing the dangers millions of children face every day as they make their way to school and back. The film aims to educate people on the importance of using pedestrian crossings.
The same thing is happening here in the Philippines, particularly in Cebu. The importance of pedestrian crossings and skywalks should be ingrained in the psyche of everyone. While there may be instances when motorists may not slow down as they approach pedestrian crossings, it is still not an excuse for us not to use them. The more people are aware of the importance of pedestrian crossing, the safer the roads will be for our children.
