Have You Visited The Virgin Island In Bantayan Already?

​When somebody mentions the name Bantayan Island, images of white sand beaches normally comes to mind. While the island has a number of beaches where you can stay for the weekend, there are instances when these places become too crowded. Due to this, you may want to consider some islands within the proximity of Bantayan Island to have some down time over the weekend. One of the islands you may want to consider is Virgin Island.

Virgin Island

Virgin Island is a privately-owned island located close to Sta Fe, Bantayan. It features fine white sand and cool clear waters suitable for snorkeling. You can also opt to try your hand in cliff diving at the island. The island is also known as Sillion Island among the locals.  The island is relatively less developed compared to the other tourist spots in the country.

Facilities and Rates

Since it is privately-owned, there is an entrance fee if you want to visit Virgin Island. The entrance fee is PHP500 for the first two people and PHP100 for each additional person in the group. If you planning on snorkeling at the island, it is advisable to bring your own gear since equipment rental at the island may be somewhat costly. Aside from swimming and snorkeling, you can also play volleyball at the Virgin Island.

​Virgin Island offers tents, cottages, and a bamboo house where guests can stay for the day. Rates are between PHP300 and PHP1000, depending on the size. While the island also has facilities for overnight stays, you should not expect them to be at par with some of the resorts in Bantayan Island. The cottages and tents are suitable for five persons and costs PHP1500 for an overnight stay. A fee of PHP200 is charged for each additional guests staying in the cottage or tent. On the other hand, the bamboo house is suitable for two persons only. The cost of an overnight stay at the bamboo house is also PHP1500.

How to get to Virgin Island

If you want to go to Virgin Island, you have to go to Bantayan Island first. The journey to Bantayan Island starts at the Cebu North Bus Terminal where you can get on a bus headed for the Hagnaya Port. The trip from the terminal to the port takes around three hours depending on the traffic. Once you reach the port, you can get on a boat headed for Sta. Fe in Bantayan. After reaching Bantayan, you can charter a boat headed for Virgin Island. While you can reach Virgin Island from any part of Bantayan, the best jump-off point is in Sta. Fe. It is also advisable to visit the island with group of friends to reduce the cost of hiring a boat.

Even as Virgin Island is a new beach destination in the northern part of Cebu, it is gradually gaining attention among beach-loving visitors to Cebu. You may want to consider having some down time at the Virgin Island are recharge yourself after a stressful week at work.
