When it comes to diving in Cebu, the southern town of Moalboal is hands down the favorite among local and foreign divers. The rich marine life close to the coastal area of the town makes it one of the best dive sites in the country. But, there are also some notable dive sites much closer to the Queen City of the South. One of these dive sites is the Marigondon Cave.

Marigondon Cave

The Marigondon Cave is an underwater cave located off the coast of Mactan. It is one of the most popular dive sites in Mactan Island. While the current outside the cave is strong, it is not noticeable once you enter the cave. The strong current is notable during high tide. The cave has a height of about 30 meters and width of around 40 meters. There is a small alcove close to the entrance of the cave.

Sand and corals covered the bottom of the cave. Sea fans and gorgonians can also be seen along the sides and ceiling of the Marigondon Cave. There may be instances when you would spot a pufferfish or two inside. There are a number of crevices at the end of the cavern. Fluorescent fish can be seen hiding in these crevices. The cave wall is considered among the most beautiful in Cebu. Colorful hard and soft corals can be seen on these walls along with other marine life.

Things To Remember

The Marigondon Cave is suitable for advanced and experienced divers. While it is safe to enter the cave, it is important for you to go through proper training to avoid any unnecessary situations. There is a memorial close to the mouth of a cave for a diver who had an unfortunate mishap while diving into the cave.

The Marigondon Cave is located around ten minutes away from the coast of Mactan by boat. The beauty of the marine life inside the cave has made it one of the most popular dive sites in Mactan Island.
