The natural attractions of Cebu have made the island one of the go-to places for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. While many of these natural attractions are already well-known among local and foreign tourists, there are still some places that have remained relatively undiscovered by everyone other than the residents of the area. One of these lesser-known natural attractions is the Dayhag Falls of Boljoon.

Dayhag Falls

The name of the waterfalls was derived from what older residents in the area say about the place. They say “ga-dayhag kuno ang tubig” or “the water is cascading.” The Dayhag Falls is located in Barangay Upper Beceril in the southern town of Boljoon. The place was actually discovered recently and is being promoted by the local government with the support of the Cebu provincial government.

While there were plans to develop the area, the place remains fairly untouched. It is one place where you can bond with nature as much of the place is not commercialized. Visitors can go down the falls through the stairs carved in the rocks. Bamboo railings were also set up to give visitors something to hold on to while they explore the five levels of the Dayhag Falls.

Five Levels of Fun

A white pebble trail will lead you to the top or the first level of the falls, which is fed by a stream. The second level is a twenty-minute trek away from the first level. The second level of the Dayhag Falls is the grandest of the five levels since it has a height of around twelve meters. The third level is the smallest among all five levels while the fourth level is the most picturesque with its rock formations under the water flowing from the third level. The fifth level is the perfect place to take a dip due to its wide pool at the bottom.

Getting to the Dayhag Falls

The journey to the Dayhag Falls of Boljoon starts at the Cebu South Bus Terminal. You should get on a bus headed for the town. The trip takes around four hours depending on the traffic. Once you reach the town, you can hop on a motorcycle for hire to go to the jump-off point for the falls. The ride will take around forty-five minutes. You will have to hike around a hundred meters to get to the Dayhag Falls itself.

The Dayhag Falls is just one of the many relatively undiscovered natural attractions on the island. It is one of the places where you can disconnect yourself from civilization and bond with nature. While the area may be developed as more people visit the place, we are hoping that any future developments will be designed to maintain the natural beauty of the falls.
