The relationship between the Philippines and the English language started during the American occupation of the archipelago. Over a century later, the Philippines is now considered a bilingual country as it recognizes the use of both Filipino and English for instruction and communication. This English proficiency is evident in the number of business process outsourcing companies or call centers in the country. In fact, the Los Angeles Times reported that the Philippines is the call center capital of the world.
