Crate Café – A Quaint Coffee Shop At The Side Of The Mountain

2/9/2017

Comments

Coffee shops are sprouting like mushrooms all over the Queen City of the South. Most of these places offer basically the same items using different names.  There are located in malls and highly-urbanized areas in the city, such as the Cebu IT Park and Mabolo area.  But there is one coffee shop in Cebu that offers more than just your regular cup of coffee, the Crate Café.

Why Crate?

The Crate Café, which opened on February 8, 2016, offers a magnificent view of the city. This quaint coffee shop began on an idea of using a shipping container for the structure. However the cost of bringing the container up a mountain was quite prohibitive so the idea was shelved. The same concept was used but with a twist. Instead of using a shipping container, they used wood for the structure, and viola, the Crate Café was born.

Food and Drinks

The Crate Café offers a number of espresso-based drinks, including the Americano, Mocha Latte and Latte. Blended drinks, such as the Banana Coffee Caramel and Raspberry White Mocha, are also available for the guests of the café.  Guests who are not quite into coffee can order the non-coffee drinks of the place, including tea, chocolate and an Italian soda.

The coffee shop also offers an ample selection of pastries to go with the drinks. These include Croissants, Rye Rolls. Macarons, and Vegan Baked Donuts. Guests at the café have nothing but good reviews of the pastries offered at the place, especially the macarons.

Getting to the Crate Café

You can get to the Crate Café by hopping on a motorcycle for hire at JY Square and ask the driver to take you to the place. You can also ride a jeepney from JY to Plaza Housing. After reaching Plaza Housing, you can get on a motorcycle to take you to the café.

The Crate Café may offer similar items as the other coffee shops in the city, but it has something none of these places offer to their guests . . . a magnificent view of the city. The Crate Café is open from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM from Tuesday to Sunday.  The best time to go to the Crate Café is just before the sun sets in the horizon.
