Being lovers of good food, Cebuanos have a good idea on how to tickle the palate of anyone. The island is home to a number of famous food items that have found their way on the dinner plates of people all over the archipelago. Some of these food items include the lechon, danggit and, of course, the Chorizo de Cebu.

The chorizo de Cebu is a unique type of sausage since they are circular in shape. There also come in two sizes, big and small. You can also choose the regular or spicy chorizo de Cebu and are typically sold by the dozen. It is one of the pasalubong items that visitors rarely fail to bring home with them.

When they are uncooked, they have a pale red color and will have a red-brown hue when cooked. They are available in many pasalubong centers and markets in the city. Visitors to the Queen City of the South can also get to taste these delectable red balls of goodness in nearly all barbecue stands in and around the city.

Cooking the Chorizo de Cebu

The first thing to do is put a little bit of water on a pan before cooking it over medium heat. You do not need to add oil since it may caramelize. The oil will come from the chorizo itself.  Prick it while cooking and allow the water to evaporate. Flip the chorizo from time to time and, if necessary, scrape the pan.  Once the chorizo starts to ooze out of the casing, the chorizo is cooked.

The Chorizo de Cebu is great for breakfast and can be paired with either plain rice or fried rice. Some people use the oil that came out of the chorizo for their fried rice. They have a sweet, spicy taste that makes you want to ask for some extra rice. The Chorizo de Cebu can also be cooked barbecue style.

The Chorizo de Cebu is definitely one of the things visitors should try once they land on the Queen City of the South. You can head over to Larsians, AA Barbecue or your friendly neighborhood barbecue stand to get to eat this famous pasalubong item from Cebu.
