The ukulele is a four-stringed musical instrument that originated in Hawaii in the 19th century. It was based on a guitar-like musical instrument from Portugal. The name of this musical instrument comes from two Hawaiian words “uku,” which means reward or gift, and “lele,” which means to come. It is closely associated with Hawaiian music and culture since King Kalākaua promoted the instrument.
