Barili is a town located in the southwestern part of Cebu. The name Barili came from the “balili” grass, which is a local grass growing abundantly in the area. In another story, the name of the town was supposedly the result of miscommunication between the locals and the Spaniards. According to the story, a couple used to live in a house located in the present town center. One of the daughters was named Inday Balili. A big tree close to the house had grass vines on its trunk. The name of the vine was “luy-a luy-a” or “balili.” When some Spaniards passed by one day, they asked the couple for the name of the place while resting under the shade of the tree. The couple thought the Spaniards were asking for the name of the grass on the tree and told the foreigners it was “balili.”
The Bolocboloc Natural Spring Pool is a natural spring pool located in Barangay Bolocboloc, Barili. It is one of the favorite places of locals who want to escape the heat of the sun, especially during summer. The place has two swimming pools with sulfuric water, which has notable therapeutic effects. The water is piped into the swimming pools from the spring itself.
Similar to going to other towns in the south, you have to get on a bus headed for Barili at the Cebu South Bus Terminal. Once you reach the town, you can hire a motorcycle to take you to the spring.
