Bakhaw Beach: Hidden Gem In The Camotes Islands

9/10/2017

The beaches in the Camotes Islands are well-known around the world. These beaches are among the reasons why Cebu is one of the top destinations of local and foreign tourists in the country. Many of the beaches on the islands are typically crowded during the tourist season. But, there are some relatively unknown beaches that are just as impressive as the well-known beaches on the island. One of these places is Bakhaw Beach.

Bakhaw Beach

The Bakhaw Beach is one of the secrets of the Camotes Island. Secluded and undeveloped, the beach offers visitors a look at how the islands used to be.  It features a long stretch of white sand and clear blue waters that has remained unspoiled. It is far from civilization and you need to pass through dirt roads and a coconut plantation before you reach this part of the islands.

Despite the presence of some small houses in the area, the place has remained relatively free of commercial activities. There are some basic facilities, such as a nipa hut close to the beach and a small convenience store offering basic supplies. You can also rent inflated rubber inner tubes of vehicle tires as floats. These are locally known as “salbabidas.”

The beach was supposedly acquired recently and may be developed in the near future. For the moment, it is open to the public for use.  But, there is a minimal entrance fee used for the maintenance of the beach.  There is actually a resort close to the Bakhaw Beach, but the concrete structure does not block the view to the beach.

Getting to the Bakhaw Beach

Your journey to the Bakhaw Beach starts at the Cebu North Bus Terminal where you can ride of a bus headed for the Danao Port. From the port you can get on a boat headed for the Consuelo Port in the Camotes Islands. You can ride a motorcycle for hire from the port to the beach, which is located in Barangay Esperanza. Bakhaw Beach is around thirty to forty minutes away from the port. It is also close to another tourist spot on the islands, the Timubo Cave.

The Bakhaw Beach is one of the few places on the Camotes Islands that have remained free of commercial activity. It is one of the places where you can consider if you want to have a relaxing weekend away from the stress of life in the city.
