Aside from the burger steak at Brutus and the pancit palabok of Mama Gie, true-blue Cebuanos miss just about all the dishes offered at Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House whenever they leave the Queen City of the South.

Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House used to be located across the old Rustan’s department store along Mango Avenue before the area became the new entertainment hub of Cebu. Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House is synonymous to great-tasting dimsum to Cebuanos who typically eat at the place during special occasions, like birthdays and graduations. The restaurant has a special place in the hearts of Cebuanos who are already working or studying somewhere else, particularly those have gone overseas.

Ding Qua Qua is one of the three brands of the Harbour City Dimsum House Co., Inc. The two other brands are Harbour City and Dimsum Break. The company is a partnership of the Uytensu and Kokseng families of Cebu. The company established its first restaurant in 1969 in Colon Street, the Ding How Dimsum House. The popularity of the restaurant steadily grew as it continued to pique the taste buds of Cebuanos.  In fact, the company was able to open its first branch in the competitive Manila market in September 2012 with the opening of a Dimsum Break outlet at SM North Edsa.  The company opened its second Manila branch a year after at Claro M. Recto Avenue.

One of the best-loved dishes offered by Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House is their Steamed Rice. It comes in three different flavors, pork, beef and chicken. It is the specialty of the restaurant and all Cebuanos look for it each time they return to their homeland. Some would even make the restaurant their first stop the moment they come back to Cebu. For those who are unable to make the trip back home, they would try to make their own versions of the steamed rice of Ding Qua Qua. But, nothing beats the original one they can find back home.

Another menu item Cebuanos typically crave for is the Siomai. The siomai of Ding Qua Qua comes in a number of variations, including the Plain Siomai, Mushroom Siomai, Bacon Siomai, Quail’s Egg Siomai, and Shark’s Fin Siomai, among others. The siomai is a traditional Chinese pork dumpling that is typically served as dimsum. The siomai at the restaurant is way much better than the siomai sold by street vendors.  Its distinctive taste is something Cebuanos long for when they think about the Queen City of the South. The restaurant also offers other dimsum dishes like the Empress Roll, Chicken Feet, Mandunggo, Crab Pincers, Spring Rolls, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Steamed Chicken.

Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House is currently located at the second level of JY Square Discovery Mall. Aside from offering its usual fare of ala carte dimsum dishes, the restaurant also offers an eat-all-you-can buffet of nearly all its dimsum dishes for only PHP 248. The items included in the Great Dimsum Buffet of Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House are the plain siomai, mushroom siomai, quail’s egg siomai, sweet and sour pork, mandunggo fried rice, and steamed rice, among others. You can actually make your own steamed rice by simply putting a serving of fried rice on your plate before pouring in the meat sauce. Similar to the old location of Ding Qua Qua Dimsum House, the new location is also a good place for small gatherings of family and friends.
